Irkutsk National Research Technical University (INRTU) is the leading Russian university in Eastern Siberia close to the famous Baikal Lake. INRTU was founded in 1930 on the basis of existing Polytechnic School as a branch of higher technical educational institution specializing in gold and platinum mining. For a period of almost 90 years, INRTU has travelled a long road and has become one of the leading universities in Siberia and the Russian Far East. Over 17500 students study at INRTU, including 1500 full-degree and 150 non-degree international students who are eager to acquire quality education delivered by a leading university in Eastern part of Russia. INRTU is the most eastern University that has received in 2010 the prestigious status “National Research University” in Russia. Its structure comprises a technopark, as well as innovative companies and research laboratories. INRTU is developing applied sciences research and teaching as well. There are 95 undergraduate programs, 65 master's degree programs, and 54 options for doctoral candidates at 8 Schools: School of High Technologies; School of Aircraft Construction, Mechanical Engineering and Transport; School of Power Engineering; School of Mining and Subsurface Resource Management; School of Architecture, Construction and Design; School of Linguistics and Intercultural Communication; School of Economics, Management and Law; Baikal School of BRICS.
In 2017 INRTU has launched Baikal School of BRICS where students from different countries study full-time English-taught bachelors’ and masters’ courses. Having earned a Bachelor’s degree, Baikal School of BRICS students acquire education of high quality being surrounded by English speaking groupmates from Russia, China, Brazil, India, South Africa and other countries as well. Starting from the first year, distinguished Russian and foreign professors provide the students with new topical knowledge and skills, deliver master classes and business training sessions, develop analytical thinking and teach to apply project approach to the solution of the tasks which they are faced with.
INRTU is a training platform for leaders which will head companies and national structures in Russia and BRICS countries’ regions in the future. Today, INRTU’s motto of “knowledge for yourself, achievements for the fatherlands” has taken it far: INTRU famous alumni include minister of transport of Mongolia, Mayor of Irkutsk, heads of Russian leading energy and mining companies.
